Ilomäki farm

At Ilomäki farm, we offer our visitors cosy and comfortable cottage accommodation, beautiful nature, Finnish traditions and plenty of peace and seclusion all year round in the small village of Peräseinäjoki, close to the city of Seinäjoki, in western Finland. A visit to Ilomäki is a chance for you to immerse yourself in authentic rural life: enjoying the scent of fresh hay, meeting the many animals living on our farm and making the most of the unhurried pace.

Ilomäki Farm has been in the same family since 1827. In addition to the holiday accommodations, our farming activities include forestry and growing crops and hay, and some sheep, horses, rabbits, cats and dog live on the farm as well. These days, we offer holiday accommodation alongside our more traditional farming activities. We welcomed our first guests in 1999 and have continued to expand our offering ever since. There are now seven unique cottages dotted around our farm, suitable for 2–9 guests. A couple of holiday apartments is available at Kalajärvi Holiday Park, around 6 km from the farm.

Ilomäki Farm is family-run and the owners, the sixth generation to run the farm, continue to live here. Merja and Jarmo Ilomäki are responsible for the day-to-day running of the farm, and are supported by the previous generation of farmers, Päivi and Reijo Ilomäki. We very much look forward to our guests arriving and you are always welcome to come and watch as we go about our daily tasks on the farm. If you prefer, you are of course welcome to have a more private experience and simply enjoy the quiet and seclusion your cottage offers.

All our accommodation is self-catering.

Activities at the farm

There are plenty of opportunities for laid-back fun for families and small groups alike, including walks, outdoor games and enjoying an authentic Finnish löyly in the sauna.

There are two forest trails, 1 km and 3 km in length, on the farm’s grounds. Along the forest trail, there is an 8-hole disc golf course and a barbecue shelter, which guests are welcome to use. You can also forage for berries and mushrooms. The floodlit Koukkari running/ski trail is 4 km away and you can choose from 1–5 km trails and the long-distance ice skating trail (1,500 m) is 6 km away. View video of the long-distance ice skating track.

We have a choice of bikes and snowshoes available for your use on the farm, as well as a range of games. In the winter we have “vipukelkka” a kind of a sleigh version of a merry go round which is a firm favourite with the children. There is also a range of toys and games available for children, including buckets and spades, swings, ride-on toy tractors, hobby horses and a toy cow, which is perfect for practising your milking technique!

THE FOUR SEASONS IN FINLAND ALL OFFER DIFFERENT THINGS TO EXPERIENCE
*In winter you can go skiing, take a hike in snowshoes, or defy the freezing temperatures and enjoy a bath in the hot tub under the stars and moonlight.
*In spring you can discover how nature wakes up after the long cold winter.
*On sunny and warm summer days, enjoy bicycle rides or try disc golf on the farm’s eight-basket disc golf course, and don’t forget the possibilities of our magic light summer nights.
*In the autumn you can delight in the nature’s gifts by picking mushroom and wild berries in the forests.
